The Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia Dmitry Shugaev said that Russia and Iran have a future in the field of military-technical cooperation, and previously concluded contracts are being fulfilled.

Shugaev said Tuesday, "We have long-term relations with Iran. We are fulfilling contractual obligations that we had, and we will see how events develop further."

"There are prospects, as is the case with all countries with which we have long-term relations. But we are not friends against anyone," Shugayev added.

In December 2020, the Iranian ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said that the military cooperation between Iran and Russia is strategic, stressing that his country will continue to cooperate with Moscow within the framework of international rules, regulations, and agreements.

Jalali added, "The US sanctions have no effect on our defense capacity and our scientific research."

In 2019, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that military officials from Russia and Iran had discussed military cooperation between the two countries.

The ministry said in a statement that the two sides "praised the level of development of bilateral military cooperation that has been achieved in recent years, and discussed the program of joint events for the current year and set plans for 2020."
