Algeria's Defense Ministry: army to remain neutral in elections
The Algerian Army Magazine said that the army rejects to be dragged into the political game in the county, assuring that it will remain neutral in the upcoming elections.
The Algerian Army said on Wednesday it will remain neutral in the June 12 legislative elections.
“The army refuses to be dragged into the political game in the county,” according to an editorial in the June edition of the Army Magazine.
"We say once again that the Algerian Army is a republican army and will continue to act so in an irrevocable manner [...] an army that implements its constitutional mandates as required by the laws of the republic," it added.
“The army rejects to be drawn into the game played by those who have gone astray,” the editorial stressed.
Besides, detachments and units of the Algerian Army conducted several operations on 2-8 June as part of their "noble missions" of defense and securing the national territory against all forms of threats, the Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday in a statement.
Meanwhile, political campaigns for Algeria’s upcoming legislative elections ended Tuesday. Algerians are preparing for the June 12 polls to elect new members of parliament.
