The leader of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, accompanied by a delegation from the movement, met with the Egyptian Director of the General Intelligence Abbas Kamel in Cairo.
Haniyeh and his accompanying delegation discussed with Kamel solidifying the results of Seif Al-Quds (the Sword of Jerusalem), especially in Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa, as well as consolidating what the resistance and the Palestinian people have achieved, developing the Egyptian role in several Palestinian files, and various ways they can rearrange the Palestinian home and strengthen its internal unity.
The two parties discussed during the meeting strengthening the relationship with Egypt and ways to develop it and Egypt's handling of several important files on the Palestinian level.
The Palestinian party thanked Egypt and its positions and the efforts it put towards ending the aggression and reconstruction.
An Egyptian delegation visited the Gaza Strip toward the end of May, its third visit since the ceasefire was announced on the occupied Palestinian territories.
A governmental Palestinian source said that the Egyptian delegation led by Major General Ahmed Abdel-Khaleq responsible for the Palestinian file in the Egyptian General Intelligence arrived in Gaza." The source explained that the visit "comes to follow up on efforts to establish the truce and ceasefire between the Palestinian factions and the Israeli occupation."
The ceasefire between the Palestinian factions and the Israeli occupation forces went into effect on May 21, following 11-day-long military aggression on Gaza. The aggression was preceded by assaults from settlers and occupation police forces against the residents of Al-Quds, especially the people of Sheikh Jarrah after an Israeli court decided to forcefully displace 12 Palestinian families residing in said neighborhood.
