Around 24 million Algerians are eligible to cast their ballots on Saturday in the first parliamentary elections in the country since the outbreak of the popular movement.

Algerians anticipate a parliament that varies from its predecessor in terms of its political and legislative presence, hoping that Algeria’s economic crisis will be eased.

Besides, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Friday that “the citizen is the master decision-maker in choosing his representatives in the People’s National Assembly,” adding that “the ballot box will be the conclusive factor in defining who the people will elect to represent them in Parliament.”

Tebboune also urged the necessity of “protecting the voice of all citizens, in order to avoid previous practices that would prejudice the citizen’s confidence in governmental institutions.”

Furthermore, the Algerian president also stressed that this entitlement is “a first chance for young people and the financially vulnerable, to be representatives of the people, amid prohibiting corrupt and non-corrupt money from the electoral process,” which, as he said, symbolizes “the awareness of citizen representation.”

This comes in light of the continuation of the voting process in the early legislative elections in Algeria at the level of mobile offices in the Algerian governorates, in conjunction with the launch of the voting process for the members of the community abroad through various Algerian consular representations worldwide.

Algerians are casting their ballots to elect 407 members of the People's National Assembly for a five-year term.
