Russia to Help Beef up Venezuela's Military Forces
After his talks with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, Lavrov said that Moscow and Caracas are discussing the possibility of supplying Venezuela with Russian weapons.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza give a joint press conference after bilateral talks in Moscow on Tuesday, June 22.
After the talks, Lavrov said that Russian experts working in Venezuela keep military equipment, and Russia intends to help the country strengthen its defense capacity.
Russia is ready to assist Venezuela in the field of defense; we are not only prepared, but we also have never stopped," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister went on to say that "the Venezuelan army has been supplied with Russian systems and military supplies, and that Russian experts regularly implement the necessary measures to preserve such equipment."
Lavrov also pointed out that Russia supports the European Union's intention to send a mission to Venezuela to assess the possibility of European observers in the upcoming elections.
