Former Israeli intelligence official: we failed in deterring Hamas
Former head of the Military Intelligence Division, Major General (res.) Amos Yadlin admits that the latest military campaign failed in weakening Hamas.
The former head of the Military Intelligence Division, Major General Amos Yadlin told Israel Hayom: "We did not succeed in deterring Hamas, nor in weakening it either. Therefore, I suggest striking it with full force, and if it collapses - let it collapse."
Yadlin added that "the nuclear deal is a tool to restrain Iran, and Israel should talk about it with the United States - including common standards and red lines."
Regarding the Seif Al-Quds operation (Guardian of the walls as dubbed by the Israelis), he said: "It was a successful military operation, but there was also a problem in terms of awareness and psychological readiness."
He indicated that "Israel should think about whether it will allow Hezbollah's missiles to turn into a strategic threat. This is the number one question for the new cabinet."
Regarding the relations with Jordan, he stressed that "it has deteriorated to a dangerous level, and it is important to renew their trust."
As for the security challenges and the Knesset members' view on them, he said, "The absolute majority among the Knesset members, in the coalition and the opposition, view the security and political challenges in the same way."
