The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, announced that the Russia-US summit in Geneva took place "explicitly and pragmatically", but after the summit, the US reimposed threats and demands.
He said that any US attempts to conduct dialogue with Russia from an upper hand position "are initially doomed to failure." "We will respond harshly and decisively to unfriendly actions", warned the Russian Foreign Minister during an interview for the Indonesian newspaper Rakyat Merdeka (The Free People).
On his part, the Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, said that there had been no significant progress in Russian-American relations since Russian President Vladimir Putin's meeting with his American counterpart Joe Biden.
Antonov explained that the issue of prisoners exchange between the two countries is still under study. "I would say carefully now. Some brainwork is ongoing on this issue.”
It is worth mentioning that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden met during a summit in Geneva on June 16, where a joint declaration was issued by Moscow and Washington concerning the launch of the "Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue on Strategic Stability."
The two presidents agreed that the ambassadors may resume their duties. Furthermore, the joint declaration reiterated adherence to the principle that "nuclear war cannot be won and should never be launched."
