Deputy Chairman of the Iranian-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Group Abbas Kalro stated that "Iran welcomes strengthening relations with Syria in various fields."

On Sunday, Kalro made a statement during his meeting with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Mekdad, in Damascus, saying that his country and Syria are old friends who share religious denominators and historical backgrounds, stressing that they should support each other throughout the various regional developments.

Kalro underscored that his country believes that increasing the level of trade with Syria and other common factors could strengthen the two countries in the face of the US sanctions, highlighting that "Syria's survival and then its victory over terrorist groups and ISIS are attributed to the wise leadership of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad."

Kalro considered that "Syria has a bright future," calling for "special attention to the strengthening of cultural and social capabilities, as well as economic grounds."
