Deifallah Abu Aqouleh, President of the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies, revealed contracts with private sector companies in Damascus to import goods through the Aqaba port.

Abu Aqouleh said that this decision will have a positive impact represented by the increase of business at the Port, as these deals were made thanks to discounts and favorable rates.

He asked all parties to work on expediting transactions to make the workflow seamless and ease the procedure in order to motivate them to use the port more, thus increasing the income of the treasury.

Abu Aqouleh also demanded that a paperless, digital alternative be created for obtaining intellectual property approval for the goods to prevent their delay due to routine and bureaucratic procedures, as such procedures can take anywhere from 8 to 15 days between issuing the official books and obtaining the necessary approvals, thus making traders or importers feel ill at ease in these dealings and resulting in delays in transport.
