President Joe Biden held Oval Office talks on Monday with Jordan's King Abdullah, a key US ally in the region, in the first face-to-face meeting expected with Middle East leaders.
This is the first visit by an Arab leader to the White House since Biden took office on January 20.
Biden also thanked King Abdullah II for his "enduring and strategic relationship" with the United States over the years, and said, "You've always been there, and we will always be there for Jordan."
Abdullah said his region has many challenges. "You can always count on me, my country and many of our colleagues in the region," he told Biden.
It is noteworthy that Jordan and America concluded an agreement last March, granting American forces freedom of movement on the territory of the Kingdom.
Biden had expressed his support for Jordan, during a phone call he made to King Abdullah II last April, days after an unprecedented crisis in the kingdom during which he accused the former Crown Prince Hamzah and other people from the circle surrounding him of being involved in a plot to "destabilize Jordan's security." and stability.”
