In a statement, the Central Elections Committee of the "Hamas" Movement announced that Ismail Haniyeh was re-elected by acclamation to lead its political bureau for a second four-year term (2021-2025) and that Saleh al-Arouri, Hamas Chief in the West Bank, was elected as his deputy.
The Committee had supervised all the stages of Hamas' internal elections in all the regions. It also reported that in addition to al-Arouri's election, Yahya Al-Sinwar was elected as the head of Hamas' bureau in Gaza, while Khaled Meshaal was elected as the head of Hamas in the diaspora.
Following the end of the central elections, the Hamas Central Elections Committee praised the "high morale exhibited by the Movement's members who took part in this electoral process across all regions, in which tens of thousands participated in an atmosphere of brotherhood, commitment, and fair competition in line with the Movement’s rules and regulations."
The Movement seized “this opportunity to announce with all pride and honor to the members of our movement, to our people and to our nation this great democratic consultative achievement, which took place owing to the victory of our people and our Resistance in the “Seif al-Quds” Battle.”
