Iranian Foreign Ministry: We will respond firmly and forcefully to any possible risky actions
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh denounced what he called the UK Foreign Minister's "baseless charges," which were reiterated by his US colleague, stating that "they are full of inconsistencies, falsehoods, and tragic provocation."
According to Khatibzadeh, the coordinated comments by UK and US officials contradict themselves, since they make allegations against Iran without relying on any documents and then warn of the possibility of such an assault.
The spokesman said, Iran supports and protects the safe and harmless navigation of ships in international waters and the Gulf, and is always ready to cooperate with the region's governments to preserve maritime security.
Foreign interference in the Gulf and neighboring states, according to Iran, destabilizes the region's security and stability.
Regrettably, these nations did little to resist terrorist assaults and attacks on Iranian commerce ships in the Red Sea and international waters as if they were supporting such attacks; moreover, these states now accuse Iran of false allegations.
Saeed Khatibzadeh urged these countries to turn over evidence proving their baseless claims, emphasizing that Iran will never hesitate to protect its security and national interests, and will reply firmly and forcefully to any possible risky actions.
These statements by Khatibzadeh are in response to the statement by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who condemned the attack on the Mercer Street oil tanker, describing it as "a trade ship sailing peacefully northern the Arabian Sea in international waters."
"Upon review of the available information, the United States is convinced that Iran carried out the deadly drone attack," Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, adding that Iran is increasingly employing a lethal capability throughout the region.
Also, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab stated earlier that "The UK condemns the unlawful and callous attack committed on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman, which killed British and Romanian nationals."
"We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran," Raab claimed, pointing out that "The UK is working with our international partners on a concerted response to this unacceptable attack."
"Iran must end such attacks, and vessels must be allowed to navigate freely in accordance with international law," he added.
On Friday, the Maritime Security website, Dryad, affirmed Israeli media reports regarding the attack on an oil tanker off the Oman Coast using a drone.
