Nasser Abu Hamid Health Condition Deteriorates
Palestinian prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid was transported from Askalan Prison Center to the "Barzilai" Medical Center due to his health condition. Palestinians have launched a large-scale popular campaign to release those under administrative detention.
The Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club announced that the health condition of Nasser Abu Hamid has deteriorated, based on which he was transferred to the "Barzilai" Medical Center from the Askalan Central Prison.
The PSPC made a statement saying that Abu Hamid, who is sentenced to 7 life sentences and has been in prison since 2002, has recently been suffering from lung problems. Abu Hamid's condition has worsened due to the harsh prison conditions and the systematic policies that come with it, such as intentional medical negligence.
The Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club indicated that Nasser is one of five brothers sentenced to life in prison. The Israeli occupation had arrested four of them in 2002: Nasr, Nasser, Sharif, and Mohammad. The fifth is Islam, who was arrested in 2018, in addition to a sixth brother, martyr Abdul Muneem Abu Hamid.
The Abu Hamid family has been the target of Israeli assaults several times. The Israeli occupation demolished their home five times, the last of which being in 2019. The prisoners' mother was prohibited from seeing her children for years, and their father died while they were in prison.
A campaign was launched in Palestine with the aim of releasing all prisoners under administrative detention, while 13 prisoners are engaged in an open hunger strike.
In an interview for Al Mayadeen, the Media Advisor to the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission Hassan Abed Rabbo stated that "the occupation is repeatedly attempting to pass its racist project against the prisoners."
The Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club reported that Israeli repression units raided section 2 in the Israeli prison facility in an-Naqab Desert, and brutally assaulted prisoners.
PSPC confirmed that this attack echoes "a continuation of the Israeli policy of abuse and retaliation, and attempts to impose a de facto position of authority inside prisons and detention centers."
