Al-Assad Sends Condolences for Losses in Algerian Fires
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad voices deep sorrow for the dire consequences of Algeria's forest fires.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, on Thursday, extended his condolences to his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the forest fires victims in Algeria this week.
“We feel pain over the tragic incident that affected brotherly Algeria because of the rash of fires which erupted in the state of Tizi Ouzou and claimed the lives of many victims… and we, in the Syrian Arab Republic, share with you the feelings of sorrow and pain,” President al-Assad said.
Al-Assad added, “We extend to you and to the brotherly people of Algeria and to the families of the victims, the warmest heart condolences, asking God to have mercy on the victims, and quick recovery for the injured.”
Earlier today, Algerian Prime Minister Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman declared that he had "mobilized all assets" to restore normalcy following a series of fires that have recently erupted in several cities.
Abdel Rahman added that he suspects widespread arson after numerous fires erupted in such a short amount of time.
The rash of more than 99 fires that broke out Tuesday claimed 65 lives, including 28 soldiers deployed to help emergency services.
Algeria's presidency declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday.
