Iran Seeks to Activate Diplomatic Efforts with Taliban
The Quds Force Commander, Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, affirmed that the events in Afghanistan are but an extension of the 20-year American occupation.
The commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, said that what the world is witnessing in Afghanistan is a continuation of 20 years of American occupation.
Qaani added that Iran is in contact with the Taliban and seeks to activate diplomatic efforts with the Movement.
The Iranian Mehr news agency reported that a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ebrahim Rezaei, said that General Qaani affirmed Iran's serious consideration of the ongoing transformations in the region and the world, adding that it has taken deliberate steps toward the recent developments in Afghanistan.
Rezaei also quoted Qaani as criticizing, during one of the meetings, the behavior of the United States in Afghanistan, of which 80,000 US soldiers were present inside Afghanistan, with daily expenses that amounted to more than 300 million dollars and more than 10 thousand soldiers dead without yielding any benefits for America.
The Quds Force Commander confirmed that the United States entered Afghanistan to control Iran, Russia, China, and India, but in the end, it failed and fled.
He also added that they used ISIS inside Afghanistan for their benefit and to achieve their goals.
Qaani also pointed out that the Doha talks between the former Afghan government and the Taliban Movement failed because of US interventions.
"One of our most important goals is to achieve Iran's security and the integrity of our borders," he added.
