At least 19 people have been killed in Darfur in rivalries that have already left scores of civilians dead recently this week.

According to Adam Regal, at least “19 people were killed and five wounded” in the armed conflict. Regal is the spokesman for the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced in Darfur.

He revealed that the clashes resulted in dozens injured and missing, and "four villages completely burned."

Janjaweed militiamen, whose soldiers have joined the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces, have taken part in this week's conflict, according to Regal. Janjaweed is commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who is the de facto deputy leader of Sudan.

“Militias have been attacking the villages of Jebel Moon, setting fire to houses and using automatic rifle fire since Sunday,” a tribal leader said. “No government forces have arrived since the attacks on Thursday and we are terrified of an attack at any time.”

Between Saturday last week and Monday this week, clashes had killed 16 in the same area, according to the Sudan Doctors Committee.

The UN, as well as the Committee, said that scores of people have been killed in addition to hundreds of houses being torched in violence in Jebel Moon and in Darfur in recent months.

Violence in S. Sudan-Sudan border area leads to dozens of deaths

Several dozen people have been killed in a disputed area on the border between Sudan and South Sudan, the UN reported on Wednesday.

UN's emergency response agency OCHA said the fighting was taking place in the oil-rich region of Abyei, and has so far left 36 people dead and many others injured. It has also displaced around 50,000 people.

Violence has recently surged in the Abyei Administrative Area as a result of a mix of territorial disputes, inter-tribal tensions, and vendettas.

The fighting, which began in February but increased in March, has gotten so heated that humanitarian operations in the area were suspended and relief workers were relocated to safety.
