Two people, one young man and a woman, were killed, and eleven other Syrian citizens were injured when unidentified gunmen targeted a passenger bus near the Marjannah station on the Damascus-Sweida highway as it was arriving from the capital, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Tuesday.
In a statement commenting on the incident, the Sweida National Guard Command accused what it called “criminal gangs affiliated with the terrorist al-Joulani regime” of targeting a civilian bus carrying urgent humanitarian cases, resulting in "the martyrdom of two individuals and more than 11 injuries, including children, and critical cases."
The National Guard Command further considered that "this treacherous attack, which targeted defenseless civilians on their journey, embodies the criminal nature of these gangs, who do not hesitate to target innocent people in broad daylight, in a desperate attempt to impose chaos, destabilize security, and threaten the lives of civilians."
'Blood of the innocent will be avenged'
After condemning this act, which it described as "terrorist", the National Guard command reaffirmed "its full commitment to protecting civilians and confronting all forms of terrorism," asserting that "the blood of the innocent will not go unavenged and the dignity of the mountain and its people is above all else."
On August 15 of last year, an armed group opened fire on two civilian vehicles as they were passing on the Busra al-Sham - Kheil road, after the checkpoint of the town of al-Jiza, resulting in the immediate death of one woman.
In this context, the Syrian Observatory pointed out that these repeated incidents are occurring near the only humanitarian corridor connecting the provinces of Sweida and Daraa, which increases the dangers faced by civilians as they travel under the siege imposed on Sweida.
