Three men convicted of killing three Iranian security officers in a terrorist attack during the riots that spread across the country last year were executed on Friday in Isfahan.

Convicted earlier by the Supreme Court, the execution was announced through the judiciary-affiliated news site Mizan. According to the outlet, the three men are Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashemi, and Saeed Yaghoubi.

On November 16 2022, the three individuals, during a riot in the city of Esfahan, opened fire on security forces, killing two Basij members and a police officer.

The news agency said they were in contact with the MKO terrorist organization, citing their confessions in court, and received the order from the Albanian-based group to carry out the deadly attack.

Others convicted in the same attack were also served prison sentences, while one person was released after investigations.

Last year, Iran came under riots fueled by foreign powers after the death of an Iranian young woman, Mahsa Amini, was falsely attributed to an attack by law enforcement officers.

Following the break-out of the riots last September, the Iranian security forces and intelligence units have uncovered numerous pieces of evidence pointing out that foreign countries are actively funding and training rioters in Iran and supplying terrorist groups with arms.

In the same context, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi revealed mid-November that the leaders of the recent riots in Iran received training in seven countries.

In May, Iranian security forces announced that they arrested members of a network with connections to the terrorist Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization MKO or MKE, as well as French intelligence.

In late October, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and the IRGC's intelligence wing revealed that intelligence obtained by Tehran indicates that the CIA and allied intelligence services planned a conspiracy against the Islamic Republic.

"The conspiracy's goal is to commit a crime against the Iranian people and the territorial integrity of Iran," the statement underlined.
