300 Boko Haram militants killed on outskirts of Lake Chad
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Nigeria confirmed that 300 Boko Haram militants were killed in 30 separate encounters.
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Nigeria announced that it has eliminated 300 Boko Haram militants in the Lake Chad region in recent weeks.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Lt. Col. Kamarudeen Adegoke, the Chief of Military Public Information indicated that the militants were killed in 30 separate encounters and that the joint task force is assessing its operations so far to prepare for the next critical phase.
Adegoke highlighted that increasing dependence on improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by the Boko Haram militants was noted, adding that necessary countermeasures were taken.
"About four IED-making factories were destroyed in the course of the operations so far," Adegoke said.
He confirmed that over 52,000 Boko Haram militants and their families have surrendered in the MNJTF's areas of operational responsibility.
Adegoke pointed out that at least six MNJTF soldiers and a member of the civilian joint task force were killed during the operations, as several other "troops have also been injured but are recuperating well."
It is noteworthy that the MNJTF is a joint military effort created by Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin to fight Boko Haram and ISIS, which threaten the security of the Lake Chad region.
