42 million Americans voted in US midterms so far
The practice of casting votes early, either in person or by mail, has become widespread in most US states during the 2020 presidential elections, a practice which was held at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The US Elections Project said on Monday that ballots cast for the US midterm election votes surpassed 42 million, going far above the 2018 early-vote midterm mark.
Americans are rushing to the polls on Tuesday to elect the 430 representatives that will be seated in Congress, including 33 or 34 of the 100 seats in the US Senate.
The practice of casting votes early, either in person or by mail, has become widespread in most US states during the 2020 presidential elections, a practice which was held at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As of Monday, more than 42.03 million were cast, of which 22.7 were cast by mail and 19.3 were cast in person.
In 2018, the total number of early midterm votes was recorded at 39.1.
Some Republican senators have already filed an objection to State law, which allows for votes to be counted on Election Day before the polls close.
In Pennsylvania, for example, they are desperately trying to "fix" the mail-in votes they received from people who don't know how to vote.
The Supreme Court ruled that these votes cannot be counted if they do not bear a written date on the envelope, a decision that is likely to cause delays in the final count.
In Wisconsin, the law prohibits the count of absentee votes if the address of the witness is incomplete.
Former US President Donald Trump claimed that "over 240,000 'unverified' ballots have already been sent out in Pennsylvania, which amounts to a total mess. "The Democrats are playing games again," he said, a claim which was debunked by state elections officials.
Ever since Trump lost the Presidential run of 2020, he accused the Democrats of 'stealing' the elections, a claim largely supported by many members of the GOP.
A few hours remain before poll results for the midterm congressional elections are opened on November 8.
With over 40 million people having already voted, it is expected to be the largest midterm turnout ever.
Some suspect that if Republicans win the elections, not only Joe Biden's presidency will be compromised, but this may also open the door for Donald Trump to step back in the run for a second term.
The elections are especially decisive due to the possibility of cutting down support to Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia.
Earlier today, it was reported that former US President Donald Trump was on the verge of announcing his decision to run for president again at a campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio.
"I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach Florida. We want nothing to detract from the importance of tomorrow,” he said.
In related news, some Republicans accused the Democrats of meddling in the midterms by bankrolling "unelectable" MAGA Republicans.
