5 new aid measures to BiH, Georgia, Lebanon, Mauritania forces: EU
The announcement comes in light of strained relations between the EU and the Global South, which is clearly evidenced by the lack or absence of support for backing the bloc's campaign against Russia.
As part of the initiative of the European Peace Facility (EPF) program, the Council of the EU announced on December 1 that it adopted five assistance measures to support the armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Lebanon, Mauritania and the deployment of the Rwanda Defense Force in Mozambique.
"The European Peace Facility continues to show its flexibility and effectiveness in responding to our partners’ needs. Today, we have adopted five new assistance measures to support Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Lebanon, Mauritania and the Rwandan deployment to Mozambique," EU chief Josep Borrell said in a statement published on the Council's website.
"These new assistance measures increase the EU's ongoing support to partner countries in Africa, the Eastern Partnership, and the Western Balkans, and expands the European Peace Facility's geographical outreach to the Southern Neighbourhood," the statement added.
The amount of provided assistance to the armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina is 10 million euros ($10.4 million), to Georgia 20 million euros, to Lebanon 6 million euros, to Mauritania 12 million euros, and to the deployment of the Rwanda Defense Forces in Mozambique 20 million euros, according to the statement.

The announcement comes in light of strained relations between the EU and the Global South, which is clearly evidenced by the lack or absence of support for backing the bloc's campaign against Russia.
During a session of the Quo Vadis Europa titled "The War in Ukraine, China and the global South" in August, EU Chief Josep Borrell said the reason why the Global South was not joining the West against Russia is because of their "lack of democracy," which suggests that Borrell is supportive of the idea that there is an element of western cultural superiority over the Global South.
