75% of Israelis say government handling of war in North 'poor': Poll
Israelis believe the Israeli occupation government’s handling of the war in the north has been "poor" amid Hezbollah's relentless operations.
A significant 75% of Israelis believe the Israeli occupation government’s handling of the war in the north is "poor", according to an opinion poll conducted by the Israeli Channel 12 on the ongoing developments in northern settlements.
The results highlight growing discontent and frustration among the population regarding the government's strategies and response to the war.
According to the poll, 18% believe the government's management is "fair", while 7% say they “don’t know.”
The poll also found that 55% of Israelis favor early elections, expressing a desire for new leadership, while 36% prefer the current government to complete its term. Meanwhile, 9% of respondents were undecided.
Last month, a survey conducted in July by the Jewish People's Policy Institute (JPPI) revealed that the majority of Israelis lack confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his government, and the Israeli military leadership.
According to the report, trust in the Israeli military has significantly decreased, with 55% of respondents expressing low confidence in its leadership.
Meanwhile, the popularity of the Israeli government continues to decline, with the survey indicating that 73% of Israelis don't trust their government, compared to only 26% who said they do.
This comes as Palestinian and Lebanese Resistance forces intensify operations on both the southern and northern fronts, delivering significant blows to the Israeli occupation.
The ongoing operations have led to mass evacuations of settlers from these areas, with no clear plan for their return or what the future holds after the war. Meanwhile, the occupation continues to stall ceasefire negotiations and a potential prisoner exchange deal, deepening uncertainty and prolonging the war.
Hezbollah threats to Israeli settlers in the north growing
Israeli media outlets reported on increased threats witnessed in northern-occupied territories due to Hezbollah's operations. The outlets pointed out the intensifying attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories, comparing the number of rockets launched in January 2024 to the number launched in July 2024.
According to Israeli media, Hezbollah fired 344 rockets in January, a number that grew three times in July. Nearly 1,100 rockets and shells were fired toward Israeli-occupied territories last month.
"The trend is clear, the threats are increasing, and the bottom line is that the north has been neglected for over 10 months."
Nahum Barnea, an Israeli journalist working for Yedioth Ahronoth, said that there is a "huge void" experienced by settlers in the north due to governmental absence and neglect.
Barnea added that the reality is "extremely frustrating," to the extent that some settlers are considering a public strike "on September 1 in educational institutions across Israel, in solidarity with families in the Gaza Envelope and the north."
The Israeli military "has no answer or solution to what is happening in the north," Barnea stressed.
