The Lebanese delegation is expected to meet with President Bashar al-Assad
According to an Al Mayadeen correspondent, a Lebanese ministerial delegation will visit Syria on Saturday to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.
The delegation comprises Deputy Prime Minister Zeina Akar, Minister of Finance Ghazi Wazni, Minister of Energy Raymond Ghajar, and Director General of Public Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim.
A source divulged to the Russian Sputnik agency that the delegation is expected to meet the Syrian President after attending a meeting with Mekdad at the Syrian Foreign Ministry building.
Earlier, Lebanese government sources confirmed to Al Mayadeen that the ministerial team will visit Syria, Jordan, and Egypt to discuss leasing fuel from Egypt to Lebanon via Jordan and Syria. There has not been a similar visit to Syria in over a decade.
Negotiations are also anticipated to focus on the processes needed to import Egyptian gasoline and Jordanian power, in addition to Syrian electricity.
This comes after Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah announced the departure of a ship loaded with diesel from Iran to Lebanon, revealing that a number of additional ships will follow suit.
Sayyed Nasrallah welcomed the Egyptian fuel and Jordanian electricity initiatives, endorsing everything that can ease the suffering of the Lebanese people independent of political gains.
