Protests in Tunisia against US Congress Delegation Visit
Amid popular protests and the boycott by UGTT and other parties represented in Parliament, the US Congressional delegation meets Tunisian President Kais Saied and the “Ennahda” Movement at the US Ambassador's residence.
Supporters of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) took to the streets in the Tunisian capital to protest the visit of a delegation from Congress and reject the invitation of the American embassy in Tunisia to organize a meeting between its representatives and a number of Tunisian MPs with the Congress delegation. Protesters held signs which called for national sovereignty and rejected foreign intervention and the congressional delegation's visit.

The US delegation completed its meeting with representatives of the “Ennahda”, “Qalb Tounes”, “Tahya Tounes” and the National Bloc at the residence of the US Ambassador, amid the boycott of the Tunisian General Labor Union and the rest of the parties represented in Parliament.
Earlier, several Tunisian parties had announced their rejection of an invitation by the US embassy to attend a meeting with the congressional delegation visiting the country.
The US Embassy had also called for meetings on Saturday and Sunday between the delegation and a number of MPs of the frozen Parliament and representatives of some parties and national organizations.
US Senator Chris Murphy is leading the congressional delegation to discuss the path forward to protect democracy in Tunisia.
In this context, Tunisian lawyers called on President Kais Saied to promptly take the required measures to find a way out of the exceptional situation the country is going through, without any foreign interference.
