ABC News has suspended longtime correspondent Terry Moran following the appearance of a critical post on his social media account targeting President Donald Trump and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The post, which was swiftly deleted, triggered backlash from Trump allies and prompted a formal response from the network.
"ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others. The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards. As a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation,” a network spokesperson told POLITICO.
Donald Trump ignited a populist revolt the moment he came down that escalator.

Millions of Americans demanding change—not sure of what it might look like, bringing along their own ideas and resentments—found in this man their instrument.

Moran, who joined ABC News in 1997, has not posted on X since the message's removal.
The post on Moran’s account read, "Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end is his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment," also describing Miller as someone who "is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred" and added, "he eats his hate."

White House allies quickly seized the post as further evidence of what they claim is entrenched bias within mainstream media organizations.
Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, responded directly on X, "The most important fact about Terry’s full public meltdown is what it shows about the corporate press in America. For decades, the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist’s pose. Terry pulled off his mask."

White House pressures network over coverage
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt weighed in on the controversy, writing on X, "We have reached out to ABC to inquire about how they plan to hold Terry accountable." The incident has become part of a broader campaign by the administration to spotlight perceived hostility from legacy media outlets.
Trump has maintained an adversarial stance toward major news organizations during his term in office. Meanwhile, he is suing CBS for $20 billion over a 60 Minutes segment that, he claims, was deceptively edited during the 2024 presidential campaign. Last December, Trump settled a separate libel suit with ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos.
It is worth noting that Moran most recently interviewed Trump in April during a high-profile sit-down marking the first 100 days of Trump’s second term. His suspension underscores the heightened sensitivity surrounding journalists’ conduct on social media and the increasingly fraught relationship between the press and the White House.
Miller, a central figure in Trump’s immigration agenda since his first term, recently suggested the administration is considering suspending habeas corpus to expedite deportations, an idea that has further intensified public scrutiny of his role.
