Active shooter reported at US Capitol, police respond
The US Capitol police report that there is a possible active shooter at Capitol Hill, calling on people in the area to take cover.
The US Capitol Police issued an alert on Wednesday about a potential active shooter at the US Capitol, urging individuals inside Senate office buildings to seek shelter and stay in place.
The incident occurred during the summer recess of the US Senate, with most lawmakers not present in their offices at the time.
"If you are inside the Senate Buildings, everyone inside should be sheltering in place as the report was for a possible active shooter. It should be noted that we do not have any confirmed reports of gunshots," the US Capitol Police said in a post on social media.
The police said they were responding to an emergency call as they dispatch to the site.
