Activists protest against 'Israel' at UN Climate talks opening
Protesters criticized the US, the UK, and the EU for failing to allocate more funds for climate finance while continuing to supply arms to "Israel".
Dozens of protesters gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, as the United Nations annual climate talks kicked off, voicing opposition to "Israel".
Many of the climate activists at the conference, some wearing the traditional Palestinian Koufiyyeh scarf, held up banners demanding climate justice and urging countries to “stop fueling genocide.”
“All these struggles are intersectional,” says Lise Masson, a protester from Friends of the Earth International, adding that “it’s the same systems of oppression and discrimination that are putting people on the frontlines of climate change and putting people on the front lines of conflict in Palestine.”
She criticized the United States, the UK, and the EU for failing to allocate more funds for climate finance while continuing to supply arms to "Israel".
A climate activist from Gaza, Mohammed Ursof, called on demonstrators at the talks to “get power back to the Indigenous, power back to the people.”
Pro-Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen resistance protests in Utrecht, Amsterdam
In a similar vein, a solidarity demonstration in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples took place in the Dutch city of Utrecht, on Sunday, rejecting the Israeli occupation's aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.
According to Al Mayadeen's correspondent in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, the demonstration was a response to recent Israeli provocations in the city and expressed opposition to the practices of the Israeli occupation.
The correspondent added that protesters chanted slogans supporting the Resistance in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as Ansar Allah in Yemen.
Our correspondent also mentioned that Dutch authorities had banned protests in Dam Square, but pro-Palestinian supporters decided to demonstrate in the nearby city of Asdrecht, rejecting the Dutch government's and European governments' support for "Israel" over recent events.
It is worth mentioning that a report earlier in January revealed that the period between October 7 and December 8 saw more than 7,557 anti-Israeli protests taking place globally compared to a mere 602 pro-Israeli protests, according to data released by the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies.
