Al-Hasakah: Attempt to liberate 3,000 ISIS prisoners foiled
The SDF countered the insurgency inside and around the prison, and only 20 prisoners escaped after a failed attempt to liberate nearly 3,000.
Intermittent confrontations continue between members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and gunmen believed to be from ISIS, who attacked the vicinity of the Al-Sinaa prison south of Al-Hasakah.
The members attempted to take control of the prison and liberate nearly 3,000 of its most dangerous leaders in the organization. Three ISIS leaders managed to escape to residential areas surrounding the prison.
ISIS began its attacks on Thursday when two car bombs exploded in front of the gates of Al-Sinaa prison for ISIS detainees, south of Al-Hasakah.
Sources reported to Al Mayadeen "hearing explosions and the sounds of heavy gunfire after the two booby-traps exploded in the vicinity of Al-Sinaa Prison." The sources added that "the prison was attacked by ISIS cells after detonating the two car bombs."
Several tanks parked in front of the prison were targeted, which led to the burning of three tanks, amid fear and panic in the surrounding neighborhoods.

According to sources for Al Mayadeen, about 20 ISIS members escaped from the prison, with the SDF calling in military reinforcements to bring the situation under control, along with the arrival of US vehicles.
Sources added that the city of Al-Hasakah is witnessing a large mobilization of SDF members with intense flights of coalition warplanes and helicopters.
The sources explained that confrontations are still continuing intermittently between SDF elements and a number of gunmen in the southern outskirts of the city of Hasakah, with aircraft combing the vicinity of the prison toward the Panorama Roundabout and the southern countryside.
The SDF media center issued a statement confirming that the specialized security services dealt with the new insurgency and an escape attempt in Ghweran prison in Al-Hasakah, along with a car bomb near the Sadkob institution for petroleum products near the prison.
The media center added that this was followed by clashes between the internal security forces and members of ISIS who infiltrated nearby neighborhoods.

A later statement was issued confirming that with the support of the SDF, the insurgency by ISIS terrorists inside Ghweran prison was controlled.
ISIS members burned blankets and plastics inside cells in an attempt to cause chaos, and the terrorists who attacked the prison from outside the walls of the prison fled to Al-Zohour Neighborhood near the prison and hid in civilian homes.
It is noteworthy that the SDF currently has nearly 12,000 ISIS militants from 50 different countries detained in several detention centers in Al-Hasaka, Qamishli, and Malikiyah.
About 2,500 ISIS families are also detained in the Al-Hol and Roj camps in the countryside of Al-Hasakah, due to most countries' failure to repatriate citizens affiliated with ISIS.
