Al-Mashat: We refuse using armistice to extend siege on us
The head of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen, Mahdi al-Mashat, said that "The enemy's exploitation of this truce to extend the siege is unacceptable and our Yemeni people will not accept it under any circumstances."
The head of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen, Mahdi al-Mashat, said today, Friday, that "the continuous violations of the [Saudi-led] aggression and its mercenaries have put the armistice at a crossroads," noting that the matter "may develop into a return to military operations in view of his repudiation of the implementation of many terms of the armistice."
His words were in reference to the armistice between the Saudi coalition and the Sanaa government, which entered into force on the 2nd of last April and was extended on 2 June.
Al-Mashat indicated that "our acceptance of the truce and its extension is to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and with the aim of reaching a comprehensive solution that ends the aggression and lifts the siege completely."
"The enemy's exploitation of this truce to extend the siege is unacceptable and our Yemeni people will not accept it under any circumstances," al-Mashat stated, warning that "the doors of the truce will not remain open."
He stressed that "the correct basis for any future peace process is to stop the aggression and lift the siege on Yemen, starting with the complete and immediate opening of Sanaa International Airport and the Hodeidah Port and disbursing employee salaries from oil and gas revenues."
He pointed out, "During the last period, we presented many proposals to open roads to alleviate the suffering of the people of Taiz Governorate and the rest of the governorates, but unfortunately they were rejected by the countries of aggression and their mercenaries."
The head of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen said that "the pilgrimage [to Mecca] is not exclusive to just one people, nor to one country, but to all the servants of God," adding that "whoever seeks to disrupt the pilgrimage and target sanctities is committing a major sin that should not be tolerated."
"The Ummah must have a position regarding the abuse of the Saudi regime, which is entirely in the American and Israeli orbit," He said.
Sanaa Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein El-Ezzi said on Sunday that there will be no room for any false extensions of the armistice with Saudi Arabia without a reliable and credible agreement that includes all the parties to the war.
A look back
Al Mayadeen had counted 13,859 violations of the armistice in Yemen committed by the Saudi coalition.
About 3,947 violations were committed by the forces affiliated with the Saudi coalition during the second month of the truce that ended on June 2nd, and 5,395 violations during the first month of the truce itself, which included dozens of air raids with reconnaissance aircraft of the Saudi coalition on army and committee sites as well as civilian homes in a number of Yemeni governorates and border fronts.
