Algeria, Iran seek stronger economic ties
During talks between Algerian and Iranian delegations, the Palestinian cause was a central focus, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries.
Algerian and Iranian delegations discussed bilateral relations during a three-day-long visit of an Iranian Guardian Council delegation, a statement released by Algeria's People's National Assembly stated.
The chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Community Affairs Committee of Algeria's parliament, Mohammad Khawan, headed an Algerian delegation to hold talks with an Iranian delegation headed by Ibrahim Azizi.
Azizi led a delegation of the council's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee alongside Iran's ambassador to Algeria Reza Babaei.
According to the statement, discussions centered around enhancing bilateral relations between the two states and exploring opportunities for cooperation, specifically in terms of "economic diplomacy."
Khawan highlighted that the two countries "share a strong desire to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership." He also commended Iran's approach to achieving self-sufficiency in various fields, which may open "new horizons" for cooperation with Algeria.
On his part, Azizi underlined the need to promote economic cooperation to match the strong political relations that Tehran and Algiers share. The Iranian official underscored support for emerging enterprises as a key tactic of fostering economic relations.

Support for Palestine at the center of Algerian-Iranian talks
Palestine also took center stage in discussions on Sunday, with both sides reaffirming their "shared and consistent commitment to just causes," with the Palestinian cause remaining at the forefront of their mutual priorities.
It is worth noting that Algeria holds a seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) where its delegates have worked to support the the Palestinian people and halt the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The country has also spared no efforts to support Lebanon amidst the Israeli aggression on the country, calling for an emergency meeting of the UNSC following the wide-scale Israeli terror attacks that targeted citizens carrying electronic communication devices.
In accordance with the directives of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria's Sonatrach was quick to send Lebanon the necessary energy supplies, allowing the country to curb a power outage in September this year.
