The Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Valerian Shuvaev, pointed out on Wednesday that Algeria and Russia pursue identical visions in the energy sector, including the framework for cooperation in the OPEC+ organization and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
Shuvaev told Sputnik there is a regular exchange of views between Russia and Algeria at various levels, including in the context of international events.
The Russian Ambassador said the two countries share bilateral cooperation in the field of production through Russian energy giant Gazprom's branch in Algeria, which decided to shift from the stage of geological exploration to the stage of production, adding that a set of measures is now being taken to complete the legal aspects of its project.
According to Shuvaev, there is an agreement and an understanding between both sides that Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's visit to Russia will take place before the end of this year.
The Russian Ambassador stressed the importance of this visit for the relations between the two countries, expressing his hope that Tebboune's visit will give additional impetus to the development of cooperation.
Earlier this month, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said preparations are underway for Tebboune's visit to Russia, noting that the Algerian side hopes the visit will take place before the end of this year.
"Algeria and Russia are important partners for each other," Lamamra stressed in a press statement on the sidelines of the Paris Peace Forum.
"We maintain a high-quality political dialogue and we hope that the visit of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Russia will mark the beginning of a new stage in our relations," he expressed.
In May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow and Algiers plan to sign an agreement confirming a "new quality" of bilateral relations between the two sides.
It is noteworthy that Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab held several meetings on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week, which was held in Moscow in mid-November.
In late August, Arkab called on Russian companies to increase their investments in the fields of energy and industry in Algeria.
