Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi has been named the new commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Force, succeeding Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari.
In his first public address on Saturday, General Jahanshahi underscored the forces' preparedness to counter potential enemy threats, pointing to the unit's skilled personnel, modernized equipment, and insights gained from past conflicts as key pillars of its defensive strength.
“The Ground Forces, with competent, faithful, and self‑sacrificing personnel, updated equipment, and the invaluable experience of veterans, are ready to respond to any possible threats from our enemies,” Jahanshahi stated in a meeting with force commanders.
Sayyed Khamenei's directives
The new commander outlined a strategic focus on five key directives from the Leader of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, centered on boosting mobility, efficiency, human resources, and weaponry to address changing security challenges.
Jahanshahi also highlighted the increasing importance of technology, noting that scientific elites, knowledge-based companies, and emerging fields like artificial intelligence are crucial for enhancing combat readiness.
He reported significant advancements in the force's capabilities, specifically in drone warfare and air defense, which he said contribute to a more mobile and agile land army.
Addressing the nature of modern threats, Jahanshahi stated that Iran now operates in a "cognitive and hybrid warfare environment," while suggesting that adversaries, after failing with conventional tactics, are now relying on soft power and psychological operations.
The commander expressed confidence that, under the guidance of the nation's leadership and through national unity, all enemy strategies would be thwarted.
Further modernization plans were also emphasized, including leveraging domestic expertise, cross-training personnel, and upgrading artillery, missile systems, and command infrastructure. These efforts are aimed at forging a more dynamic and capable Ground Force.
