Aliyev Backs Cooperation Between Russia, Iran, Turkey Amid Tensions
Azeri President Ilham Aliyev supports the 3+3 regional cooperation format, which includes Iran, Russia, Turkey, and Caucasus nations.
Azeri President Ilham Aliyev stressed his country's support of the 3+3 regional cooperation format, which includes Russia, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev told the Spanish EFE news agency that Armenia did not respond yet to Erdogan's proposal of the 3+3 regional cooperation platform.
"If we are able to manage to create this format of cooperation between six countries of the region, that will be the main guarantee against any kind of new hostility. That will be an important factor for regional cooperation, and it will generate a lot of benefits," he said, assuring that Baku completely supports the six-country cooperation format.
Aliyev also pointed out the possible positive outcomes of the regional cooperation between the six countries, saying that it would enhance trade in the region and increase its turnover 'immediately,' creating thousands of new jobs, which would greatly boost the economy.
The president concluded by saying that enhancing mutual trade and concentrating on positive dynamics would bring the region out of the tensions it is in and transform it into one of stability and peace.
In August 2021, Baku recently negotiated arms deals with "Israel," as the two have maintained a close economic relationship over the years. At the time, Israeli media reported that "the Azerbaijani government is holding talks with the Israeli side about the possibility of signing an arms purchase agreement in a new deal that may amount to $2 billion."
