Al-Kadhimi: Assassination Attempt an Act of Cowardice
In a statement at an Extraordinary Meeting at the Council of Ministers, Iraqi PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi addressed those who have been trying to destabilize Iraq.
The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, claims that there are figures who are trying to tamper with the security of Iraq, rendering it a "gang state."
In his first statement at an Extraordinary Meeting at the Council of Ministers after facing a futile drone attack, which was meant to assassinate him, he said, adding that "My home fell victim to a drone attack last night, which targeted my premises particularly; this is an act of cowardice and does not represent the will of the Iraqis."
He added, "Iraq is passing through various challenges that neither are a product of today or of this government; we were able to solve the economic and health crises, and we have overcome the collapse of oil prices and the erroneous policies of the previous government."
Al-Kadhimi affirmed the success in "fulfilling the demands of the people, religious authorities, and protestors in holding early elections, providing everything that the Electoral Commission requested. He continued, "The results of the elections, the complaints, and the appeals are not within the direct responsibility of the government; our duty is rather focused on financial and security matters to conduct the elections."
The Prime Minister said, "We prevented the country from falling into a regional war; we were able to bring the country to safety," adding, "We fought against corruption, and we will not stop pursuing the corrupt; we will not mediate for them, and they will not escape justice."
Regarding the events that took place with the protesters in front of the Green Zone last Friday, he said, "We ordered an immediate investigation into it, and we will put any violator behind bars and bring him to justice because we do not differentiate between Iraqis."
