All 50 Democratic Party state leaders have expressed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the party's presidential nominee, Reuters cited informed sources.

This came after they held a conference call on Sunday after President Joe Biden announced he would withdraw as the party's candidate and endorsed Harris.

Participants declared their "full support" to Harris, one source said.

Biden's poor performance in the first campaign debate against Trump last month heightened worries about his cognitive abilities. This led many Senior Democrats and donors to urge him to withdraw from the race, with funders even freezing their donations.

But less than nine hours after Harris became the Democrat's de facto leading candidate, tens of millions of dollars poured back into the campaign.

ActBlue, a fundraising platform for Democrats, said the "supporters have raised $46.7 million" through the organization after Harris announced she would be running for office. "This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle," ActBlue said on X (Twitter).

After Biden declared his support for his VP, Trump's campaign team was quick to sharply criticize her potential leadership.

"Harris will be even worse for the people of our nation than Joe Biden. Harris has been the Enabler in Chief for Crooked Joe this entire time. They own each other's records, and there is no distance between the two," the campaign said in a statement.

The Republican camp altogether was also swift to denounce both Harris and Biden, with House Speaker Mike Johnson, for example, stressing that Biden must resign as President "immediately".

"If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough," said Johnson.
