Anti-war rally to take place in US on Feb 8
The US is bolstering its allies in Europe and its citizens are calling for de-escalation, asking Washington not to go to war with Russia and halt NATO expansion.
Activists and demonstrators will rally Tuesday against the United State pushing for war in Europe in Hartford, Connecticut, the chair of the Connecticut Peace and Solidarity Coalition, Steve Krevisky., told Sputnik, hoping that people would join all around the globe.
"I expect that there will be many thousands of people protesting these war threats, not only in the US but also around the globe. We will hold a demonstration on February 8 at noon in Hartford, Connecticut," Krevisky said.
According to the chair, the group is looking into organizing similar rallies weekly until the crisis is resolved, stressing that diplomacy was the only route out of the crisis.
"In order to reduce tensions, there is a need to solve problems through diplomacy, not war," he said. "I think that NATO should be abolished and that the US should be indicted for war crimes committed in so many places."
Rallies had taken place Saturday under the motto "Peace with Russia Day of Action: February 5, 2022," all across the US.

The anti-war groups behind the rallies, which include World Beyond War, Code Pink, Veteran For Peace, and ANSWER, staged the rallies to show the world that most US citizens were not seeking a war with Russia.
The rallies come amid soaring tensions in Eastern Europe as the West accuses Russia of planning to invade Ukraine, saying such an action was "imminent" and bolstering Kyiv with arms despite both the latter and Kremlin denying the allegations.
