  • Any non-Palestinian actor at Rafah crossing is legitimate target: PFLP
This handout picture released by the Israeli occupation army shows Israeli forces on the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt in the southern Gaza Strip on May 7, 2024.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) warned that any presence of non-Palestinian personnel at the Rafah crossing shall be treated as an occupying force and a legitimate target by the Resistance.

In a ground invasion, Israeli occupation forces occupied the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, despite Hamas' earlier announcement that it had accepted a ceasefire proposal presented by mediators Egypt and Qatar.

The PFLP stressed that Rafah is a purely Palestinian-Egyptian crossing in accordance with international laws and that the Palestinian side is the one authorized to manage the crossing in agreement with the Egyptian side.

“Any plans to introduce any non-Palestinian actors or security companies into the crossing are doomed to failure and will only be met with fire,” the PFLP warned.

The Front concluded its statement by stressing that the occupation’s storming of the Rafah crossing is a Zionist crime aimed at military showoff and achieving an image of victory albeit false.

It is also aimed at intensifying pressure on the Resistance to soften its positions regarding the deal and satisfy the "most right-wing and fascist leaders in the Zionist war government," the PFLP stressed, adding that this crime will only result in more killing, destruction, and starvation of defenseless civilians, without any ability to release any Zionist captive held by the Resistance.

Meanwhile, Israeli Security Minister Yoav Gallant indicated that the invasion of Rafah "will continue until we eliminate Hamas in the Rafah area and the entire Gaza Strip," or until the first captive is retrieved.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also claimed Tuesday that the occupation of the Rafah crossing is "an important step on the way to destroying the remaining military capabilities of Hamas."
