Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun on Tuesday received Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit at Baabda Palace to discuss the evolving regional situation, Lebanon’s stance on recent developments, and efforts to pressure "Israel" to halt attacks and respect last year’s ceasefire agreement.

Aboul Gheit was joined by Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Ahmed Zaki and a delegation from the League, and following the meeting, he expressed that he was “honored to meet President Aoun."

He noted that his visit to Lebanon coincided with his participation in two major events, including a conference on Arab-European cooperation against terrorism hosted by Lebanon’s Command and Staff College, as well as the Arab Media Forum scheduled for tomorrow.

“Our discussion with President Aoun was analytical and comprehensive. I sensed strong confidence from him that Lebanon is on the right path and that its future is promising. He briefed me on his recent meetings with US envoy Morgan Ortagus and the Egyptian intelligence chief, and shared his perspective on Lebanon’s current climate," the Arab League Secretary-General stated.

Aboul Gheit also highlighted that the United States is demonstrating renewed determination to lead Middle East peace efforts, stating that “there is clear American engagement to prevent Israel from acting unilaterally as it did in past years."

He added that he agreed with President Aoun that the overall situation is moving in a positive direction.

When asked about possible Egyptian-American coordination to support Lebanon, Aboul Gheit affirmed that this view was mostly correct, while minimizing concerns about a renewed Israeli war on Lebanon and noting that although risks remain, he sees it as unlikely due to ongoing talks with Washington.
