Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi affirmed that the genocide in Gaza is continuing in full view of the world, denouncing the silence of the international community and accusing states that brandish human rights slogans of actively supporting the atrocities. He stressed that the Islamic world today needs unity more than ever.
Araghchi's remarks came during a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati, where the two discussed the latest regional and international developments. The talks focused on the Israeli occupation's ongoing crimes in Gaza and its expansionist ambitions, including the killing and forced displacement of Palestinians.
Both ministers agreed on the urgent need for serious measures by regional countries and the broader international community to halt the genocide in Gaza. They also stressed the importance of prosecuting and punishing the perpetrators of these crimes.
The conversation further touched on the Iranian nuclear file, with both sides insisting on the right of all member states of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to peaceful use of nuclear energy. Araghchi and Abdel Aati noted that members of the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency bear a direct responsibility to support diplomatic efforts and to avoid further complicating the Iranian nuclear issue.
This comes as Egypt recently clashed with Tel Aviv over a $35 billion gas deal, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu froze while citing alleged Egyptian military activity in Sinai. Critics argue the move was designed to exploit Egypt's energy crisis and mute Cairo's outspoken opposition to the Gaza genocide, as well as its support for South Africa's case against "Israel" at the International Court of Justice.
Iran, on the other hand, has been among the most proactive states in supporting the Palestinian cause, politically, diplomatically, and materially, backing resistance movements, amplifying Gaza's plight in international forums, and framing the struggle as a unifying imperative for the Islamic world.
