Human Rights Watch confirmed that the situation in Gaza was already catastrophic due to famine even before the latest Israeli escalation aimed at occupying Gaza City.
The organization stressed that countries must impose an arms embargo on the Israeli regime and sanctions on Israeli officials involved in committing war crimes.s
Since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, rights and humanitarian organizations have warned of an unprecedented disaster resulting from the tightened siege and severe shortages of food and medicine.
UN reports have confirmed that half of Gaza’s population is on the brink of famine, while the UN Commission of Inquiry described the Israeli regime's policies as amounting to the deliberate starvation of civilians.
Despite mounting international calls to halt arms transfers and hold Israeli leaders accountable, the lack of concrete measures has allowed the occupation to press on with its military operations, further deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.
UNSC say famine in Gaza 'manmade crisis'
All members of the United Nations Security Council except the United States declared on Wednesday that the famine in Gaza is the result of human actions, describing it as a "manmade crisis."
In a joint statement, the 14 nations stated that "the use of starvation as a weapon of war is banned under international humanitarian law." They appealed for an "immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire," the release of every captive held by Hamas and other groups, and a large-scale increase in humanitarian assistance throughout the besieged territory.
The council members also pressed "Israel" to "immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on aid delivery," noting that access to food and humanitarian supplies must not be obstructed.
