Armenia praises Iran’s support for sovereignty of nations
An Armenian diplomat praised Iran for taking good positions in favor of national sovereignty.
Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan expressed gratitude to Iran on Sunday during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran for its principled and constructive stances on regional states' sovereignty and its rejection of any change in international boundaries.
He also described the opening of Iran's general consulate in the southern Armenian city of Kapan as a significant accomplishment and a turning point in the relationship between the two countries.
Safaryan also emphasized the capacities and infrastructures available for the strengthening of Armenia-Iran commercial ties, emphasizing the importance of carrying out previous bilateral agreements.
Commenting on the inauguration of Iran's general consulate in Kapan, Amir-Abdollahian said that this is a “significant” step that aims to increase trade exchange and attain further economic cooperation between the two countries.
This comes shortly after Amir-Abdollahian met with Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia's Foreign Minister, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia's premises in Yerevan.
He informed his Armenian counterpart that "we consider Armenia's security as the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the security of the region."
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed happiness "that the relations between Tehran and Yerevan are on the right track and progressing" and have reached the extent whereby Iran considers "the security of Armenia as the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the security of the region."
