Autopsy holds IOF responsible for elderly Palestinian martyrdom
Leaked investigations reveal that none of the Israeli occupation forces soldiers involved in the martyrdom of the 80-year-old Palestinian man, Omar Abdul Majeed Asaad, would be indicted.
An autopsy has confirmed that an 80-year-old Palestinian man, Omar Abdul Majeed Asaad, who was martyred as a result of a brutal assault by the Israeli occupation forces north of Ramallah, had a “stress-induced sudden cardiac arrest stemming from external violence," The Guardian reported.
Asaad was martyred in his village, Jiljilya, after being cruelly arrested by the Israeli occupation forces, which stormed the village.
The old man's hands were violently tied behind his back with black zip-tie handcuffs, inflicting injuries and unbearable pain.
Heinous attack
The attack was heinous, as Asaad was blindfolded, beaten, and assaulted, before being left lying on the ground in an under-construction building until he passed away.
Asaad's body was discovered in Jiljilya, with the zip-tie still brutally wrapped around one wrist.
The autopsy issued Wednesday by the Palestinian Justice Ministry revealed that Asaad "had internal bleeding in his eyelids as a result of pressure on his eyes, abrasions, bruises, and redness around the wrists from being cuffed with zip ties," The Guardian mentioned.
The martyr also had pre-existing heart problems.
No IOF soldiers would be indicted
According to Haaretz, the Israeli occupation soldiers involved in the martyrdom of Asaad noticed that he was quiet and "left without checking his wellbeing, despite the fact a military medic was nearby."
Local witnesses said the old man lost consciousness and stopped breathing before the Israeli soldiers left the construction site where he was held.
For its part, Ynet news website reported that none of the Israeli soldiers involved in the crime “would be indicted, nor have they been suspended.”
The website quoted Israeli occupation lawyers as claiming that Asaad's martyrdom "is not related to the conduct of the military force."
US sought clarification
According to his brother, Asaad was a former Milwaukee, Wisconsin, resident who had lived in the US for decades before returning to the occupied West Bank ten years ago.
For its part, the US State Department stated that Omar Abdul Majeed Asaad was a US citizen and that it had sought clarification from “Israel” over the incident.
"We support a thorough investigation into the circumstances," State Department Spokesperson Ned Price told reporters.
