Bagheri Kani presents comprehensive report to SNSC on nuclear talks
The Supreme National Security Council has held an extraordinary meeting this afternoon, chaired by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, to discuss the Vienna Talks.
The head of the delegation of Iran at the Vienna Talks on JCPOA Bagheri Kani said the Iranian negotiating delegation focused on obtaining the necessary and reassuring guarantees that Iran will benefit economically from the nuclear agreement.
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran held an extraordinary meeting this afternoon, chaired by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, to discuss the Vienna negotiations, during which Bagheri Kani presented a comprehensive report on the nuclear talks to the Council.
The meeting was centered on a text recently proposed by Enrique Mora, the EU coordinator for the talks, Noor News agency reported.
US ‘verbally agrees’ to 2 Iranian demands
In the same context, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated, on Monday, that the United States has “verbally agreed” to two of Iran’s demands in the talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, as reported by IRNA.
During a press conference, he added that the US needs to adopt a realistic approach to the guarantees.
“Regarding the two other remaining issues, they have shown some relative flexibility verbally, but it needs to be mentioned in the text," he said.
"We have told them that our red lines should be respected...We have shown enough flexibility...We do not want to reach a deal that after 40 days, two months, or three months fails to be materialized on the ground,” he stated.
He also said that Iran would make its final proposal on a potential deal in Vienna by midnight today.
In 2015, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany reached a nuclear deal with Iran in order to address the crisis around its nuclear program. In 2018, then-US President Donald Trump decided to pull out of the agreement, with Washington slapping its most sweeping sanctions ever on Tehran.
The current occupant of the Oval Office, Joe Biden, has repeatedly indicated his support for reentering the nuclear deal.
Since last April, Russia, the UK, Germany, China, the US, and France have been conducting discussions with Iran in Vienna on reviving the JCPOA in its original form.
