Belarus recalls ambassador from UK: Foreign Ministry
Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz announced that Belarus is downgrading the level of its London diplomatic mission to a charge d'affaires.
Belarus has decided to recall its ambassador from the United Kingdom due to London's hostile acts, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz on Friday.
"In connection with a number of unfriendly steps taken by the UK, systematically aimed at causing maximum damage to Belarusian citizens and legal entities, a decision was made to downgrade the level of the diplomatic mission of our country in London to a charge d'affaires," Glaz told reporters.
Earlier this month, Britain announced further economic, trade, and transport sanctions against Belarus for its alliance with Russia, as well as sanctions against six Russian nationals.
Import and export prohibitions on products worth around 60 million pounds ($73 million) will be included in the Belarus sanctions package, including exports of oil refining goods, advanced technology components, and luxury goods, as well as purchases of Belarusian iron and steel.
In addition, more Belarusian enterprises will be barred from raising debt and securities in London.
