Former US President Donald Trump has accused his successor Joe Biden of failing to tackle the Russian special military operation in Ukraine due to his concerns over the country's nuclear potential.

Trump argued that Biden was now afraid of attacking a "nuclear power," implicitly referencing Russia. The Republican figure also claimed had he been in office, the Ukraine crisis would not have occurred altogether, asserting that the special operation came as Russian President Vladimir Putin saw Washington's "weakness".

Trump further added that he was the one who initiated US arms deliveries to Ukraine, including what he alleged was hundreds of Javelin missile systems.

These words came after he had told a rally last week, "Despite all of Biden's weakness, cowardice, and incompetence, there is still a path for him to end this tragedy in Ukraine, without getting Americans snared in a gruesome and very bloody war."

The ex-president's assertions were preceded by Biden assuring the American people that they had no reason to be concerned about a nuclear war in light of the US-Russian tensions over the Ukraine crisis.

A factor that drove the special operation to occur altogether was the West's aggressive statements on Ukraine and NATO's expansionist aspirations in the region, which would have seen the alliance granting Kiev accession down the line.

Other reasons that drove the operation were the Ukrainian shelling of Donbass and the killing of the people of the Donetsk People's Republic and Lugansk People's Republic, in addition to Moscow wanting to "denazify" and demilitarize Ukraine.

Following Russia's operation, the US and its allies responded by rolling out comprehensive sanctions, including restrictions on the Russian central bank, export control measures, SWIFT cutoff for select banks, and closure of airspace to all Russian flights. Many of their companies have suspended their Russian operations.
