Bloomberg: Biden administration set to announce student loan relief
A report published by Bloomberg said that US President Joe Biden is expected to announce student debt relief, however, the framework remains unknown.
US President Joe Biden, according to a report released by Bloomberg, is expected to announce student loan relief on Wednesday.
The report stated that while it is unknown what sort of student relief Biden is anticipated to offer, expectations are that it may involve a temporary extension of the payment pause and more debt elimination. Since at least May, Biden has considered eliminating $10,000 in student loans for each student.
Since March 2020, loan payments have been suspended in an effort to reduce the financial burden of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated measures. The pause might be prolonged until 2023.
According to media reports, more than 40 million Americans have student loan debt totaling over $1.7 trillion, which is more than both credit card debt and vehicle debt combined in the country. According to the research, a fifth of the debtors had defaulted on their obligations before the COVID-19 outbreak.
