Casualties in Ukraine strike on evacuee housing center in Belgorod
The governor of Shebekinsky District says strikes targeted a center hosting residents evacuated from the war zone.
At least one person was killed after Ukrainian forces targeted a temporary accommodation center hosting residents of the Russian Shebekinsky district in Belgorod Oblast.
“Today, the armed forces of Ukraine fired at a temporary accommodation center for residents of the resettled rural municipalities of the Shebekinsky district," Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Tuesday on his Telegram channel.
“A large number of attacks, one person was killed. The most sincere condolences to all loved ones. Several people were injured,” he added.
“A very difficult day is coming to an end."
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin said while Russian forces only strike Ukrainian military infrastructure, arms depots, and other targets that could be used for military action, "Kiev regime chose a different path, a path to try to intimidate Russia and its citizens, to try to target residential buildings."
The Russian leader confirmed carrying out a strike targeting Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate in Kiev and stressed that Ukrainian decision-making facilities are legitimate targets within the reach of the Russian forces.
On May 21, US President Joe Biden announced after the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, that Western nations will begin training Ukrainian pilots on flying F-16 warplanes and other combat aircraft, signaling an inevitable escalation in the war and inconceivable repercussions.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded to the decision warning that Western countries are "playing with fire" and slammed the plan as "an unacceptable escalation" of the conflict.
