The president of Rosatom Latin America Ivan Dybov told sources on Friday that Central American and Caribbean states are showing an interest in establishing an agency that specializes in nuclear science and technologies, similar to the one Rosatom is implementing in Bolivia for agricultural, medical, and research needs.

"States of Central America and the Caribbean show interest in the project [of nuclear science and technology center]. These countries are interested in non-energy applications of nuclear technologies, primarily in nuclear medicine, agriculture, and science," he said.

Dybov added that each state is motivated by different interests regarding the establishment of such an institution.

Therefore, Rosatom will provide a flexible approach to the project to respond to each need accordingly.

"For example, if a country wants to concentrate on agriculture, then we can propose the configuration of such a center 'sharpened' primarily for agriculture; if we are talking about medicine, then we can also offer the appropriate configuration," he said.

Speaking about the nuclear science and technology center in Bolivia, Dybov said this was Rosatom’s calling card in the region. He expressed hopes that once the center is commercially launched, the project will serve as a reference for neighboring states as its implementation contributes to the development of several sectors, including healthcare, agriculture and science.

It also provides the incentive for scientists to be trained and conduct scientific research, he added.
