Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, held a telephone conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyed Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi at the latter's request on Wednesday, where the two discussed the recent developments in the Middle East.
Albusaidi, during the call, expressed strong condemnation of "Israel's" recent attacks on Iran, characterizing them as a flagrant breach of the United Nations Charter and international law while also emphasizing that such actions represent a grave violation of Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Expressing deep concern over the escalating regional tensions, he particularly highlighted the dangers posed by attacks targeting nuclear facilities, warning that such strikes could lead to potential nuclear leakage while emphasizing the catastrophic consequences this would bring to the entire region.
'Israel' undermined regional stability
Wang emphasized during the phone call that the root causes and development of the current tensions are unequivocally clear, considering that "Israel's" actions constitute not only a violation of international law and the fundamental norms of international relations but also a severe compromise of Iran's sovereignty and security along with a significant threat to regional stability.
Wang noted that the conflict had undermined the fragile progress in the indirect talks on the Iranian nuclear issue, a diplomatic process to which Oman had significantly contributed.
Wang stressed that the urgent priority remains stopping the hostilities, explaining that achieving a ceasefire quickly would minimize potential losses while warning against allowing the region to plunge into what he described as an unpredictable abyss.
China slams Trump on his Iran stance
Beijing issued a strong condemnation of US President Donald Trump on June 17, accusing him of escalating "Israel's" conflict with Iran and exacerbating tensions by "pouring oil" on an already highly volatile situation.
The criticism came in response to Trump's controversial social media post, which had drawn widespread condemnation for telling Tehran residents to "immediately evacuate", an alarming statement that intensified international fears about potential additional Israeli attacks targeting Iranian civilian areas and critical infrastructure.
In response to Trump's comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that actions such as fanning the flames, pouring oil on the fire, issuing threats, and applying pressure would not contribute to easing tensions but would instead serve to escalate and expand the conflict further.
