China backs Russia’s security and sovereignty efforts
China reaffirms support for Russia’s security, sovereignty, and stability, opposing foreign interference, in a joint communique after high-level talks.
China has expressed firm support for Russia’s efforts to maintain national security, stability, and sovereignty, according to a joint communique issued after the 30th regular meeting between the Russian and Chinese heads of government.
The statement was released following Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s two-day visit to China, where he met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The two leaders co-chaired the high-level talks, which concluded with the signing of several bilateral agreements.
“The Chinese side supports the Russian side’s efforts to safeguard its security, national development, prosperity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and firmly opposes any external interference in Russia’s internal affairs,” the communique stated.
The meeting underscored deepening strategic coordination between Moscow and Beijing amid growing global tensions and Western pressure.
The two countries agreed to intensify cooperation across energy, agriculture, transport corridors, digital economy, and space exploration, signed a joint communique and a number of cooperation documents. This includes documents on customs and satellite navigation.
They also committed to boosting people-to-people exchanges, including mutual visa-free travel. They emphasized that despite external pressure, both sides would expand investment, reduce reliance on the US dollar/euro in trade, and strengthen multilateral coordination via platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.

China-Russia ties withstood the test of international changes
In an earlier visit to China in September, just before Beijing's Victory Day Parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Chinese President Xi Jinping that relations between their countries have reached an “unprecedented level,” during high-level talks in Beijing held ahead of a major military parade.
“Our close communication reflects the strategic nature of Russian-Chinese ties, which are currently at an unprecedented level,” Putin said in a pooled live feed during the meeting with Xi.
Putin added, referencing historical military cooperation, “We were always together then, and we remain together now.”
“China-Russia relations have withstood the test of international changes,” Xi said.
He added that Beijing is committed to working with Moscow to “promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system.”
In recent years, China and Russia have significantly deepened their strategic and economic cooperation, positioning their partnership as a counterweight to Western dominance. Bilateral trade has surged to record levels, surpassing $240 billion in 2024, driven by energy exports, technological collaboration, and joint infrastructure projects such as the Power of Siberia gas pipeline and new transport corridors linking Eurasia. Military and security ties have also expanded through joint exercises and coordination.
